Writing Battle: Heart Flash Fiction Battle 2025

03/09/2025

The results are in!  I cannot believe I made it to the finals, but I did, and even survived the first round to then be knocked out in the 32 round.  This is much bette than the last competition I entered at writing battle.  This one was professional judged only.  They provide detailed feedback from the judges which were all really good.  Given I won my first three rounds, which is what you receive feedback for,  almost all of it was positive.

I have to give a huge shoutout to the writing group I am in.  It’s just over one year since I joined and I can say without question their input and feedback has gone a long way to turn me into a better writer.  I think it is hard for people to hear feedback.  The thing is, the more you get it, the easier it gets to understand.  I tend to look at it through the lens of “These people are taking their time out of their life to help me get better.”  Once you consider it that way, it does give you a different perspective on how to accept their opinions.  That said, as most agents will tell you, also take criticism with a grain of salt.  Don’t lose the story you want to tell based on someone else’s preferences.  They most likely mean well, but everyone knows what they like.  (Story available in blog post)
