Book Review: The Time Machine

03/12/2025

This is the farthest back I have read in quite awhile.  One thing I always find challenging is the word usage and distance from the people in the story.  For instance, the people talking with the time traveller were so distant, and even the dialog of traveller himself was so…self important is the best way to put it.  Reminded me of how Poe wrote characters.

That said, the concept of the Morlock and Eloi were really interesting.  I liked how he predicted a future of evolution that pushed the classes of people fully in a particular direction, but also reduce their intellectual capabilities into base survival instinct.  Given this was really the first book to introduce a time macine to the masses, I liked it.  Even though there is a bit of a language barrier as I mentioned to getting into the prose comfortably, I would read some of his other works just to see how they compare.  All that said, this is definitely a classic.
