So if you’ve seen the 90’s movie with the same name, this book is not the same. Originally released under Richard Bachman, they have since re-released under his more popular name. I was really surprised at how much better the book was at selling this other world. In fact, I really wish they’d have made this movie back then instead of the crazy action hero movie they did make. Not that it wasn’t fun, but this story is so good. If you read interviews, it is also kind of crazy how fast he wrote this.
One thing I will say, in the book, the stakes are higher for the protagonist, and his behavior is more normal. There is a lot more things about the world that you don’t get from the movie, and the ending…well, that was something.
There is a new version of the movie I have not seen yet, but I do plan to watch. All in all, this was well worth a read.
