Book two of Fever House. I really like the pacing of this book, and the varied view points. I felt the back stories were right-sized, and the characters made sense who we were following. There were parts in the book I just could not put it down, especially things with Matthew. This is a good read if you are okay with coincidences and not having everything explained by the end.
That said, there was one part I still can’t get an answer on. It’s said near the end that Naomi noticed when she pulled the fever out of people, the people they touch also remove the fever from them. But it’s not explained as far as I remember if this is something new from being around whatever is in Matthew, or, it’s always been like that. The reason this matters, Katherine holds the little baby near the end, when she has the fever, but it doesn’t change her back.
The second issue I had it this demon or whatever just goes to this loft and expects all the parts to be there and then the agent just destroys the items, and the demon gets angry. But it really just didn’t deliver that unexpected win or really a path for the demon to coalesce the conditions out of the story. It was still enjoyable, but this ending could have been a lot stronger.
