This started up right where the first book ended, which was fantastic. This is the middle of a trilogy book so I wasn’t looking for closure, but some pretty massive things happened in this book. What also happens is that the jade trade becomes the focus and that pushes out the perspective to beyond Kekon. In that, it looks much smaller compared to the rest of the world. This also brackets the clans and really demonstrates that if they always work apart from each other, it could be to the detrement of the Green Bone way of life.
I also really like the struggle of Hilo where people think if him one way, due to his behavior as the hand, but he’s really not that person they think he is, and seeing that contract is really interesting.
Shae really comes alive in this novel, and same with Anden. The end did not disappoint and pushed me right into the finale.
