Where do I even begin with how wonderful this book is. It starts out so unconventional to me, but with an insight to that power of jade. And from there, the story unfolds into a very well thought out culture totally wrapped around the concept of bioenergetic jade.
Lee’s writing style is so efficient that there is never any information you feel you don’t need to know. It’s always just enough to keep the story going, and you cannot put the book down. She also is a master of switching PoV where it matters and doesn’t feel jarring, much like how Virginia Woolf would do.
And in a world that is so rich and packed with people, the characters feel very unique. This books gets us familiar with Green Bones and the Clan system, and the struggle between No Peak and The Mountain. It also introduces us to the outside world and how it’s closing in on this large island. Definitely one of my favorite reads for the year.
