The second in this series and I have to say, it started out super confusing. I was expecting it to be more related to the first book, but it wasn’t. Once I got through that, then it became more clear but the first half of the book really meandered where I was not clear why we were being told all this. Then finally, half way in, things started to pick up and from there to the end it was fantastic. There was a lot of tension and action and really pulled me into everything going on, including the concept of the book. If I were to give notes to the author it would have been to shrink the beginning, get us into things quicker, then slow down the end a bit so the very last of it didn’t feel rushed out. Every resolved so quickly I was left with wondering how the end worked. What was interesting is I felt closer to the characters in this book compared to Forever War, but being so disconnected from the first story, it left me wanting to know the connection. Neat concepts of course which I like about Haldeman.
