Book Review: Drown

This book was recommended by a friend due to how tight the writing is.  I have to agree, it’s very well written, and the similes are some of the best I’ve read in some time.  It’s a bunch of short stories that loosely matches the author’s life experiences to his own.  What I found the most interesting is where things matched in terms of adolescence and then where things different relative to culture differences.  Also, the viewpoint of an immigrant to the United States which was a perspective I’d not read before.  One of the fascinating things is the main characters criticisms of his father, yet, there were many parts of the story that he was becoming his father.

I think for me, this was good research on non-familiarity with a different environment to the one you are used to being in.  Also, it’s about the rawness of behavior and drive.  Very tight characters and uncomfortable situations.  Definitely worth a read.
