Book two I found to be much better than book one, and I think it was because we got to see things unfold from a lot of different perspectives. It made the world feel bigger. The only thing I found odd is when we moved into the perspective of the Amnardbat when they sabotaged the imago to be installed into Mahit, it felt like too much story that we wouldn’t know. I’d rather it be discovered then told in this way.
The other thing I’ll say is the end fizzled out for me. The resolution was very quick and I wanted to see more from the alien side. I get that these books are more political in nature, but I felt we could push in a bit more than just to Mahit.
That said, Martine is a fantastic writer and build a very full world with unique characters and a rich history.
